I am offering opportunities for doing PhDs or Masters by research in big data analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence. I am currently actively conducting research on the following topics:

IoT to monitor and control water quality for smart aquaculture

In this work, we are investigating how best we can use the Internet-of-Things (IoT) to monitor the water quality of the fish cage. We also investigating the best method to allow automatic or remote control of the water quality can be realised. This multidisciplinary research is a collaboration between UMS and Ko-Nelayan Sabah. Deep learning for lung-related disease detection

In this research work, deep learning is used to detect lung-related disease, including TB and COVID-19, in particular at its early stage, from the chest X-Ray (CXR) images. To improve the detection rate, we are investigating various feature types extracted from different image representations. We will work closely with local hospitals to ensure the findings of the research could be used to help the local communities in particular, and also nationwide. This research is supported by the UMS internal grant for COVID-19.

Speaker recognition system

In this work, we are investigating a robust speaker recognition method for voice-controlled IoT applications in the Smart Home environment. One of the main challenges that need to be addressed is how can we reduce/ get rid of the unexpected acoustic events.
